The Paradise We Own
An ongoing series on 35mm film about the legacy of land and memory
When I moved into my husband’s childhood home, there was a mirror at the back of the garden, right by the fence that bordered the cemetery. To me, it felt magical. I had grown up reading the Narnia books and often imagined that the mirror might be a portal to another world.
Years later, we acquired that land, which had once been the apple orchard of our home. We opened the fence, the mirror was gone, a new garden began to take its place. We planted apple trees, and now, those trees grow alongside our children, becoming part of the world we continue to shape.
I believe our LORE – the family’s story – is shaped by the memories we carry and the legacy we’ve created. It’s a universe we craft with both our hands and heart, one that will be passed down to our children — the paradise we own.
